On February 28, 2026, the Dan Tloome Housing Project served as the strategic foundation for a transformative community activation that successfully harmonized personal wellness with ecological stewardship.
The “Healthy Walk, Healthy Environment” movement moved beyond the scope of a traditional fitness event, functioning as a holistic intervention designed to address physical health, social cohesion, and the environmental sustainability of the precinct. By positioning residents as the primary beneficiaries of this developmental project, the initiative established a precedent for how public spaces can be utilized to foster a resilient and conscious citizenry.

This high-value strategy was realized through a robust collaboration between the Rand West City Local Municipality, the Ariobex Foundation, and Arebueng. Under the leadership of MMC Nozipho Mapena (Integrated Environmental Management), the mission centered on integrating the “6 Rs”—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink, Refuse, and Repair—into the daily habits of the community. By emphasizing energy conservation and conscious consumption, the initiative aimed to foster long-term environmental, social, and economic sustainability. This integration is vital for municipal health, as it reduces the ecological footprint of the Dan Tloome Housing Project while building the social capital necessary for lasting urban maintenance.
The success of the Dan Tloome Healthy Lifestyle Initiative was the result of a highly coordinated logistics chain involving dedicated volunteers, assistants, and private partners. We extend our deepest gratitude to all entities that ensured a safe and high-energy environment.

The transition from strategic vision to tangible impact is best evidenced by the remarkable level of community mobilization and the diverse demographics reached during the activation.
Having 50 elderly participants performing light exercises alongside 80 soccer players created multi-layered social dialogues. Furthermore, the Fun Walk was strategically used to elevate awareness for Anti-GBV (Gender-Based Violence) and waste management, ensuring that every step taken contributed to the resolution of local social ills. This inclusive approach reinforces community pride and ensures the message of a “healthy lifestyle” is carried into every household.

We would like to explicitly thank:
- MMC Nozipho Mapena (Integrated Environmental Management): For the visionary invitation and for organizing this vital community initiative.
- The Participants: For their energy, team spirit, and commitment to a cleaner Dan Tloome.
- Ariobex Foundation and Arebueng: For their essential partnership and coordination in bringing this collaboration to fruition.
- Moloko Botse Tsebono (PTY) LTD: For the critical logistical support and the “Capital Budget Allocation” that provided nutrition to a total reach of 750 people. This included:
- Nutritional Support: 4 boxes of Bananas, 4 boxes of Apples, 750 units of Liquid Fruit Juice (330ml), 750 units of Water (330ml), 750 Simba Snacks (25g), and 750 Energy Bars (22g).
- Guest Catering: Specialized Meat, Pastry, and Fruit platters for the 150 invited guests.

These partnerships are the bedrock of our developmental goals. As we acknowledge that “reducing waste… is everyone’s responsibility,” we look forward to future collaborations that continue to enhance the quality of life in our municipality.
This initiative was organised by the MMC Nozipho Mapena from Integrated Environmental Management and merges physical wellness with ecological responsibility through a comprehensive program featuring a fun walk, soccer matches, and a dedicated campaign to combat illegal dumping.

Social Facilitator Zongezile Mzimela highlighted the necessity of this synergy, stating: “I think that we need more of stakeholder engagements that will assist with the social ills in the community. We need more engagement with local stakeholders so that we create a cohesive environment including our own communities to initiate collaborations with them.”
